E-mail Setup (Vista)

For Windows Vista with Office 2007

Add the WFU Exchange connection to your computer

  1. Go to the Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel > Mail
  2. Click on "E-mail Accounts"
  3. Click on "View or change existing e-mail accounts" > click "Next"
    • If View or change existing email accounts is grayed out use Add new email accounts
  4. Click on Add
  5. Choose Microsoft Exchange Server
  6. Select Manually configure server settings (Please use the default settings if no information is provided)
  7. Microsoft Exchange Server = gc._msdcs.deacnet.wfu.edu
  8. Use Cached Exchange Mode
  9. Your username is the first part of your email address. (ie. janedoe@wfu.edu > username=janedoe)
  10. Click Check Names, when this is resolved your userid will be changed to your name
  11. Click on More Settings
    • GENERAL tab
      • Enter a name for the connection such as WFU
      • Check Starting Automatically detect connection state
    • ADVANCED tab
      • Use Cached Exchange Mode
    • SECURITY tab
      • Do not use Encrypt date between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server
    • CONNECTION tab
      • Check the box Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTPS
      • Click on Exchange Proxy settings
      • Type mobileumail.wfu.edu as your Exchange Proxy Server
      • Check both: fast and slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP
      • Choose Basic Authentication
  12. Close and save all

Launch Outlook and log on

  • Username: deacnet\[userid] (ie. deacnet\janedoe)
  • After you enter your password, the process may take several minutes to complete as your exchange account and various folders are created.
