Government Secrets. National Security. Free Speech
January 2, 2008
Wake Forest University's Secrest Artists Series and Voices of Our Time speaker series will present "Secrets vs. Security," a two-part event that examines the issues of government secrets, free speech and national security. The first event is the docudrama Top-Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon Papers, starring John Heard. The play reenacts the 1971 battle between the U. S. government and the Washington Post over the publication of the Pentagon Papers. Set in the home of editor Ben Bradlee, his staff decides if publishing the documents violates national security. The Battle for the Pentagon Papers will be presented at 7:30 p.m. January 17 and 18 in Wait Chapel. Tickets are free to Wake Forest faculty, staff and students. Call 758-5757 for complimentary tickets. General admission tickets are $25/$20. Call the Theatre Box office at 758-5295 to purchase tickets.
On January 24, the second event in Secrets vs. Security will be a free lecture by Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the top-secret Pentagon Papers. The lecture titled Iran and Iraq: The Need for New Pentagon Papers will be held at 7 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.
