Litigation Clinic Placements
Our program operates in accordance with the North Carolina Rules Governing Practical Training of Law Students. Hence students must have completed three semesters of law school and be in good standing to participate. Students are placed with a civil law supervising attorney for the entire semester and with a criminal law supervising attorney for six weeks of the semester. The Clinic Director interviews interested students to determine these placements.
The Civil Law placement choices include:
- Private Practice, either general or specialized
- Corporate General Counsel (at Dell, Inc., R J Reynolds, Inmar, BB&T, Novant Health & NC Baptist Hospital)
- Legal Aid of North Carolina
- The National Labor Relations Board, Region 11 Office
- Forsyth County Attorney's Office (Child Support Enforcement and Child Protective Services)
- Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education
- United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of North Carolina. (The two placements at the U.S. Attorney's Office combine both civil and criminal law. )
The Criminal Law placement choices include:
- Federal Public Defender's Office - Middle District of North Carolina
- District Attorney's Office - Forsyth County
- District Attorney's Office - Guilford County
- District Attorney's Office - Rockingham County
- Private Criminal Defense Firms
- State Public Defender's Office - Forsyth County
- Office of the Capital Defender - Forsyth Regional Office
