Cliff Britt (’82, JD/MBA ’86), Law Board of Visitors
Cliff Britt (’82, JD/MBA ’86) recently created two funds at the N.C. Bar Foundation to benefit Wake Forest law school students. The funds will be named for his uncle, Judge David M. Britt (JD ’37), and his father, Judge W. Earl Britt (’56, JD ’58). Proceeds from the endowed funds will provide loan repayment assistance to Wake Forest law school students who work for Legal Aid of North Carolina. The funds are created to allow contributions from others who wish to honor the two brothers who are both judges.
Duane Daggett, Law Board of Visitors
Duane Daggett, a member of the Law Board of Visitors, has endowed the Daggett Family Law Scholarship in honor of his four children who graduated from Wake Forest law school. The Daggett family is unique in becoming the first with four family members who attended the WFU law school.
The four children who graduated from the law school are David Daggett (JD ’85) who is managing partner with Lewis & Daggett in Winston-Salem; Denise Daggett Riebe (JD ’86), a law professor at the Brooklyn Law School; Dawn Daggett Brackman (JD ’88), an employment lawyer in Grand Rapids, MI.; Darcia Daggett Grady (JD ’00) a real estate lawyer until her recent move to Charleston, S.C. Another sister, Danielle Daggett Shealy is currently a Lutheran minister in Clemson, S.C. and is married to a lawyer.
Martin Garcia (JD ’81) Law Board of Visitors, Wake Forest Board of Trustees
Martin Garcia (JD ’81) was recently appointed by Florida Governor Charlie Crist to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Committee.
Martin is an attorney with Hill Ward & Henderson P.A. and founder of Pinehill Capital Partners Inc. in Tampa. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar, is a member of the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission, and has served as president of the Tampa Bay and Florida Chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Garcia is a recipient of the Michael Fogarty Pro Bono Service “In The Trenches” Award and the Florida Bar Association’s President’s Award of Merit. He succeeds Basil Bain, and is appointed for a term beginning July 1, 2008, and ending June 30, 2012.
Tom Sager (JD ’76), Law Board of Visitors
Tom Sager (JD ’76) has been promoted to senior vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer for DuPont.
Tom helped pioneer the DuPont Convergence and Law Firm Partnering Program. Through his leadership, this program has become a benchmark for its innovative approach to the business of practicing law. Sager currently serves as chairman of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, a group that advocates for the expanded hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms they serve. He also is author of numerous articles.
