Housing in Venice
Students may apply to stay at Casa Artom, a beautiful two-story house in a residential neighborhood called Dorsoduro, faces the Grand Canal between the Peggy Guggenheim Museum and Ca' Dario. The 1820s house or "palazzo" was, for a time, the American consulate. The university began leasing the house in 1971 and purchased it in 1974.
Casa Artom is named for Bianca and Camillo Artom. Dr. Artom taught and conducted research at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. His wife taught Italian to Wake Forest students in Winston-Salem and spent summers in her native Venice taking care of the house.
Casa Artom, though not sumptuous, is comfortable and highly livable. Rooms are triples and doubles - housing cost for the four-week program is $1800.
